Wild Things

The kids and I went to the opening night of Spike Jonze's masterful recreation of Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are". We went to our neighborhood Roseway Theater, newly remodeled and run by good peeps! The theater was full, as expected, and enriched our already wonderful viewing experience. We all laughed in unison and cried too as Jonze took us through Max's journey of the heart. Bijou adored it and howled like a true wild thing all the way home. Jack had no howls but only a furrowed and thoughtful brow as he quietly said, "The monsters were kind of scary." The lead monster, "Carol" was scary and played appropriately by James Gandolfini. But he loved other parts, his favorite being when Carol showed Max his incredible miniature city complete with boats and water features. This was depicting a perfect world where they could all be together. The message of family and connection in a world of stress and distraction was telling. We loved this movie with all our heart!

Dad's Birthday!

We had the best time helping dad celebrate his birthday this year. After checking out the new "Roar" exhibit at the zoo we went for sushi! We had plenty of dad's favorite unagi and tempura! Then Bijou picked out a special carrot cake to finish off the evening. We love you dad!

Visits with Veets!

We had the best time visiting with auntie Vita! It was a great way to finish off the summer and welcome the new school year. We got to bike ride around the neighborhood, visit the arcade, go yurt camping, and play with mr. Jimmy. It was a super week of fun! We miss her already! xoxo

First Day of School!

I was so proud of my two kids on their first day of school. They picked out their cloths, got their backpacks ready, and were looking and acting way too grown up! Bijou already loves her 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Hunt and Jackson did great with his first day of Kindergarten!

Fair Time!

The kids and I enjoyed an entire day at the Oregon State Fair with our friend Jacque. Their favorites included pie tasting, the animals, food, smokey the bear, and Jack's first time on the chair lift ride! We all had a great time!

Island Time with Friends!

We headed back up to Orcas Island! This time with our dear friends the Paxtons and a special visit from uncle Chris and Nigel Pennyworth! In addition to the usual amazing island fun Jackson caught his very first fish! "with no food too!" He caught a smallish trout off the dock with out any bait! We released it before we could take a picture but there were many shots taken of the effort. The last day we got to help Brian celebrate his birthday and even spent some time island hopping. It was hard to come home after such a great trip!
